Developed for the RIBA Part 3 exam, we built this as a guide to answering a variety of Fee and Resource Questions. Please feel free to download, edit and forward any feedback!
Perhaps initially appearing a bit complex (my Excel skills are rudimentary at best!) the aim of this sheet is to provide a dynamic method of answering a range of questions, namely in three general areas: 1) PROGRAMME 2) FEES + PROFIT 3) RESOURCE COST.
The idea is that by entering known values (often given by the exam scenario e.g. Construction Cost, Ideal Profit, Staff Costs) you can then play with the resourcing the job until the resultant Fee gets close to something that makes sense, or visa versa.
Fee Earning (Technical) Staff Costs are equated without the need for a multiplier (which is a method I've seen used but never explained?!). These are achieved by equally dividing the direct and indirect overheads and multiplying this by each persons fee earning time.
This has been published here because it it the easiest way to ensure my revision group can get the latest update if they want. There seemed to be several varying methods detailed in the available literature which I reference and highly recommend reading - this is only my interpretation of how I think it works!
